So I had my 24 week appt today. My doctor did her normal thing, she talked to me about things in her life while she checks stats. Heartbeats were great...everything looked good.
As usual after she was done she asked if I had any questions. I then told her about the hardness in my upper belly when I walk for longer than 20 min, She said it was normal because there is a baby there. That surprised me. Then she said, here, I'll show you and she got me prepped to do another u/s. While in there she said...wait a minute. All the sudden she said that she thinks Baby B is a boy. All along Baby B has been a girl. She double checked to make sure the other baby was indeed a boy and she confirmed that Baby A is a boy. OK, so now I might be having two boys. She told me not to bank on anything yet. She then said that the fluid looked different than the first time so now I'm going back in a week instead of 2. I'm like...ok, no big deal.
Here's where it's weird for me. I feel movement in my lower abdomen, like by my pelvis. This isn't where she showed me babies. It didn't dawn on me until after I left to have her check there also just to make sure there's nothing else there.
So this is going to be the dumbest question I ever ask. What are the odds that there's a third that hasn't been seen yet? I'd imagine slim to none but I'm now curious as to what I'm feeling in an area where she didn't look for a baby since we've always known we're having twins.
What complicates this is that we did IVF. I'd have to imagine that if an egg were to split that this would have been seen by now...no? I'm good however this works out. I just can't imagine that a third would be lurking in there.
Please tell me I'm nuts.
Re: Weirdest appt ever
I think it's highly unlikely, but I do know there was a mom on a triplet message board who found out at like 28 weeks that she was having quads, not triplets. ha!

I was just reading a triplet mom's blog yesterday and they found her 3rd baby @ 20 weeks. She thought she'd been having two all along. Turns out one of the two originally seen had an ID twin.
When they're that big (24w) I think it could be easy to miss one, but it might be hard when they're smaller and more visible. Have you had several u/s? Its unlikely they missed a triplet, but it can definitely happen!
oh yeah! i know who you're talking about!

My first instinct would be to say probably not, but obviously, it does happen! Wouldn't that be a surprise of a lifetime!
Keep us posted!
My goal this week is just to pay attention to where I'm really feeling movement. I think it would be good to check anyway just so that we're not surprised! lol
My first instinct is also no. This appt just threw me.
Very weird! Are you seeing an MFM-this was your ob right? I have to say I was never that confident in my ob's u/s skills. For one baby I'm sure she would do fine but she had never delivered triplets before so I don't think she was the best at always finding all of them and knowing which was a, b and c. I always preferred when the u/s tech at her office or the MFM's tech and Dr did my u/s.
pea-kay the story about the mom who thought she was having triplets but then had quads floors me! That would be some crazy news to get!
I definitely don't think it's possible but there are just some things that don't add up. She showed me exactly where they were positioned and I felt movement way below those two places. I don't think either of them are long enough to make me feel movement that far from where they were.
My OB always does the ultrasounds. The fact that she said, oh, I might have seen the same baby twice kinda scares me. Though it's not like we're going from boy/boy to boy/girl....it's the other way around.
I'm sure I'm just paranoid because it took me asking a question about my belly getting super hard when I walk more than 20 min (even at a super slow pace) for her to go back and really check instead of doing a quick ultrasound while talking to me about other things. I have a feeling Wednesday will be a very thorough check so we're all on the same page.
