Re: I just got the summary of charges from the hospital.
WOW! I might go for an epidural just because I won't see a bill...just kidding. That is crazy!
I live in Canada on the US border and my OB wanted to make sure I head towards my hospital with plenty of time (1.5 hours in from the border) otherwise the ambulance will take me to the US side since it is the closest hospital and it is very expensive on their OB budget here but I had no idea!
This is why I am so very thankful that DH is military and TriCare covered everything.
Whoa at the 13k.
I have gotten a couple of bills from my L&D - but I'm sure there will be more. I was in for 5 days, in labor for 36 hours, and then had an emergency c/s.
But for added fun, I went to the ER one week PP, and then was admitted to the hospital for 8 days for an infection. Now, I am on home health care with a nurse visiting my house a few times a week for 4-6 weeks.
Without insurance, this would be a $250,000 treatment. I'll probably get away with paying $3-4K total.
That is the actual rate. I had a very uncomplicated med-free delivery (was only in the hospital for 27 hours total), so that contributes to it being so cheap.
I pre-paid my OB something like $700 for her delivery charges.
LOL between the hospital stay and my OB charges it was almost 20K for my delivery.
Thank god for insurance!!! I won't be paying more than $500 of it.
I once had a picture until the trolls showed up.

"If we weren't all crazy we would go insane."
We have Tricare Reserve Select too and I'm not really sure what we'll end up paying. I've heard as little as nothing to something like $25 per day for the hospital stay. Either way, I'm not expecting much of a bill. I hope I don't get a big surprise bill.
Yikes! Looking at those totals makes me glad I married a teacher! His awesome healthcare coverage made my cost = $0! All prenatal and baby wellchecks are free too.
Ours is something like this. Except we only had to pay $150 transfer fee from the regular hospital to the childrens hospital. I think the rest is covered...we shall see.
