I'm still nursing DD at 11 months and before getting pg, planned to continue until one of us wants to stop. I'm not sure what to do now. I know that I'll at least go another month to avoid doing formula and bottle, (DD refuses a bottle). Anyone nurse throughout the entire pregnancy? Nervous about nursing both of them. I assume when new LO is born, DD will only nurse once or twice a day, but will she want to nurse 24/7 when she sees LO doing it? any advice welcome. I'm on the fence here.
(not sure if it's worth mentioning, I have bad morning sickness)
Re: Nursing & pregnant, tandem nursing?
I'm still nursing DS at 2 and I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant. I think it's a very personal decision on whether you want to tandem nurse. For what it's worth my understanding is 1/3 of babies wean during the first trimester due to a drop in supply, another third wean because they don't like it when the milk changes over to colustrum and the rest go on to tandem nurse once their younger sibling is born.
For me I have pretty easy pregnancies and it wasn't too bad to nurse during the early months of pregnancy. DS really decreased the amount of nursing while my supply was low but once I got colustrum in he kicked it up a notch. For the most part I was okay with it. As I progress in my 3rd trimester I'm starting to be less tolerant of all the nursing, playing with my hair and petting my face that happens. I almost lost it today when he nursed on and off for 2 hours before naptime. I logically understand it's a normal hormonal change to resent or not want the older child to nurse but it still made me feel guilty about getting so frustrated with him today. Still I'm not going to attempt to wean him before new baby comes because I know how important it is to him, and I know the new baby will be a huge adjustment.
Congratulations on the pregnancy.
