and you were breast feeding, would you switch to formula?
He doesn't seem to like table food too much, and just wants to nurse all the time. But I'm assuming I'm not producing enough milk. He's in the 10th percentile for weight. The Dr. doesn't seem too concerned, but I am.
And if I just try to supplement with formula, he usually refuses it, he's holding out for the boob. I'm afraid it will be all or nothing.
Re: So if your baby had only gained 1 pound in 3 months
Is he following the same curve? Has he followed the same curve for height as well? My DS has weight gain issues and had always followed the same curve until recently he fell off the chart for height and weight. They referred him to a specialist just a few days ago.
If you feel that you aren't producing enought BM I would at least supplement with formula. I know you said he doesn't really like table food but does he eat purees? Maybe try feeding him some yogurt, cheese and other foods that are higher in fat like mashed up avocado.

No, I wouldn't switch to formula if my doctor had no concerns. 10th percentile is fine if he's staying on a fairly consistent curve (and should be checked on the WHO curve, not the CDC curve).
He holds out for the boob because formula tastes gross compared to breastmilk.
You can try making the solids he will take high calorie, but odds are he's just a smaller baby. Mine is. He's perfectly healthy - perhaps more so than a baby that's fatter. 100th percentile is NOT the goal. Neither is 50th.

We had a weight issue for a while and as he was continuing to drop in weight percentages our Pedi comforted us by saying that it didn't matter if J was in the 5th or 95th percentile, as long as he stayed on that curve. It's when they continue to drop that raises the red flags. He never mentioned anything about the weight and height needing to be on the same curve though...
Also, like another PP mentioned, I would schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant first (my OB and our Pedi both have one available to moms), tell them your concerns and have them monitor your LOs milk intake.
Has your LO been learning any new skills lately or have they always been more active for their age? That seemed to be our "problem", Jeremiah was burning more calories than he was taking in which we "fixed" with changing nursing frequencies and introducing purees.
No advice yet, but we're dealing with the same exact issue. We see the Dr on the 30th. I have spoken to her on the phone and she said did not encourage any supplementation. She said keep offering solids (he's totally uninterested) and keep nursing. My LO's lack of gain are because he is super active and always has been for his age so he's burning a lot of calories.
We'll see what she says at his 9 month appointment. I continue to worry about it, but I would never all out switch to formula. If anything, I'd supplement one or two feedings if that's what the doctor recommended.
I have avoided formula and BF my DD for over a year now. In the beginning, she went a couple of weeks without gaining any weight, but I trusted my body and knew that we would soon recover from the trauma we both suffered as a result of my difficult delivery. She has always gained slowly, but on the same curve (or close to it).
https://kellymom.com/bf/normal/weight-gain/ Here is a link that has a chart about normal BF weight gain. https://kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/supply-worries/enough-milk/ This one helps you determine if your LO is getting enough milk.
If your Dr is not concerned, I would try not to be either. Also, I would try to focus on finding table foods that your LO will eat that are highly nutritous and high in good fats (such as avocado). The percentiles need babies of ALL sizes, so there is nothing wrong with a baby being in the 10th percentile if that is normal for your baby. I would only be concerned if my Dr. was using the WHO growth charts (not the AAP ones which are based on formula fed infants) and my LO was losing percentiles rapidly.
I wouldn't switch if your pedi's not concerned. We had a dramatic drop in weight gain as well and I exclusively FF.
