Crib mattress pad problem?

We are JUST setting up Jack's crib (long story) and the mattress pad doesn't fit! Aren't they all supposed to be the same size? Did anyone else have a problem? It is really tight. You can force it on, but it bends the corners of the mattress, yet the padding on top is all bulky and loose.

i thought they were pretty standard. ours is really tight - like barely a finger's width of space. but it doesn't squish anything.?they are supposed to fit pretty tightly to avoid entrapment and suffocation.
