Negative tests but no AF??

I have not had a Period for over 5 months.  I went to the Dr a few weeks ago and he does not seem concerned about it at all!  I am not on BC but we use Condoms.  I do not think i am pregnant cuz i have taken like 10 tests and all BFN.  The last one i took was like 2 months ago.. Im not sure what else to do but it is stressing me out!

Re: Negative tests but no AF??

  • This was me about 4 years ago, and I'm dealing with it again right now.  My PCP wasn't concerned about it 4 years ago, although now my current OB has me on Provera to try and stimulate a cycle. When it first happened 4 years ago we had no explanation and my PCP just put me on BCP which regulated me just fine.  This time around I'm sure its directly related to my two m/cs, but for me it's not a hormone thing.  My body is just taking a while to reset after the two losses.

However, I'm not sure what's causing yours, but it may be worth asking for some basic tests on your hormones/thyroid functions.

  • I don't know too much about it, but I have heard from a few people that pcos can cause the lack of periods.  I would definitely request some testing to figure out why you're not having a period.

Sidenote - if you do take Provera - be prepared for a long, heavy period.  I had to take that before a uterine surgery a few years ago, so that my cycle was regulated, and I thought it was horrible.

  • Are you BFing still or did you recently stop?

If not, then 5 months sans cycle is not normal. I have PCOS which often causes irregular periods / long cycles. Once I hit the 90 day mark I go to my OB. It used to be more concerning to me and I always encourage someone with a long cycle to get checked out. I've taken meds to induce a period. I'd also keep testing just to be sure you're not pregnant. If you went to your PCP don't. Go to an OBGYN.
