We are doing everything to encourage a 6am wake time (even that is early but at least tolerable and equalling enough sleep for DD. She wakes happy and babbling after 10 hours of sleep but I worry she should have more like 11.
- We have an early 6:30pm bedtime
- She, currently, sleeps till 2am then nurses and is up again between 5/5:30.
- I feed her at 5/5:30 to treat as night waking -- maybe I should just let her be?
- I don't get her from her room until 6am (unless she falls back asleep of course).
- We have white noise and blackout shade so her room is plenty quiet and dark.
- she takes 2-3 naps a day ranging 40min - 1hr plus (rarely 2hrs).
The early wake means a super early 8am nap and that sort of throws the day off as I'm trying for 9/1/3 naps or if two naps then 9/1. She has to take three on these early wake up days or won't make it to bedtime.
Re: A whine about my early (5am) riser
Its hard when they wake up an hour before you would like them to and are hungry. S does this every now and then lately (we think its a spurt) and it throws off the whole day's schedule and intake. Unless she is screaming bloody murder, we do not go to her at 5am. She knows how to soothe herself and let her do her thing.
Have you considered a 7pm bedtime instead or do you think 5am is her natural clock waking up?
It sounds like this post could have been written for my DS. We are having the same issue. We always left him in his crib until 6 and most times he would go back to sleep. Now, he rolls over to his belly and gets ticked after about 10 minutes. He won't roll back over and so I have to go in and get him (once he sees me or DH, it's all over). I've also tried feeding him like it's still the middle of the night, but he's way too smart for that!
Isn't it amazing how anything that starts with "5" on the clock makes you angry, but a "6" in the hour spot is bearable?! Although, I would prefer a "7"...
So to add to the mix -- a few ams this week (since we've been doing more cereal/yogurt) DD wakes up and poops. Sometime between her last night feed and 6:15/6:30 when I get her up. This makes it hard to decide whether to go in at 5/5:30 or just leave her. I hate that she might be sitting in poop but I have no way to know. And I'm sure it is contributing to her staying awake at that hour.
Can't win.
