Babies: 6 - 9 Months

XP: Pulling my hair out (feedings)

DD has been able to STTN no issues around 6 months.  Then she started waking again and we gave her 2oz.  We decided to cut out the 2oz feeding because it was throwing off her daytime consumption.  DD is on Neocate and has never drank a lot.  Up until about 4 weeks ago she was at 22-24oz per day.  Now she is at a solid 26-27oz. We eat solids 2x per day (not huge, maybe 2.5oz total?), if there is time we get a snack 1-2hrs before our last bottle.

Well, twice in the last week she has woken up super hungry - like I could hear her stomach growling.  She is difficult to feed - she won't drink her bottles easily and its always a big to do to get her to finish them.  Its like she has ADD.  She needs to be holding something or playing with something to be distracted.

So, I think we need to increase her oz intake to 28-30 or so to keep her satisfied.  How do I do this with a child that already hates taking the bottle?  She gums the nipple and keeps her mouth shut sometimes.

This is our current eating schedule:

6:30am 5oz ----> she did 6oz this am, will likely continue

(solids)

9:30am 5oz

12:30am 5oz

(solids)

4pm 5oz -----> she struggles with this bottle the most

6:45/7pm 6oz -----> thinking of changing to 7oz

 I know we will drop to 4 feedings at some point but I need those bottles to be bigger.  We were drinking 4oz bottles before (due to reflux).

We see our GI next week and I will ask for advice on this, but thought I would ask here.  I feel like I am stressed out at every bottle feeding that she will give me a hard time and I think she senses that.  Any changes you would make?  Advice?   Anyone else go through this?

Re: XP: Pulling my hair out (feedings)

  • My doc told me to count the formula that is mixed in with cereal which is usually about 2 oz. She also told me that he can start being trained on a sippy cup with juice. Maybe you could put her formula in that to drink with her solids. Even if its alternating bite drink bite drink. That way she doesn't have to lay down and drink the bottle. She can be distracted with her new sippy and shes still getting the formula. My son is interested in food more than his bottle and I had asked a similar menu question, i was thinking about cutting the formula back and adding more solids and the moms said 25-28 oz is normal for an 8 month old
