She is SO gassy at night.. How to help???

My poor little EBF girl is SO gassy at night. She just cries and screams in discomfort.. :-( We have tried the drops, massaging her belly, and pumping her legs with zero relief... Any other suggestions?? It's only in the evening, so it makes me doubt that its a diet related issue.

  • Maybe a bouncer with vibration might losen some gas up?

  • Boil an onion until it is clear. Put 1/2 oz in a bottle with a little sugar and give to her. Wait 30 minutes if she is still gassy do another 1/2 oz. be prepared for manly farts!!

  • I don't have any suggestions but we are going through the exact same thing right now. It is a horrible feeling to not be able to help your little one. Hopefully people have some great suggestions for us!!

  • Mine too.. I hold him over my arm in a horizontal lie, on his tummy with arms & legs either side of my arm.  This gets a lot of burps and farts out!  Also tummy time on the boppy.  I feel your pain, it sucks!!

  • Same here. We do Mylicon drops before every feeding which is helping some.  The L&D nurse I talked to said its usually worse at night. Hope everyone finds relief.  May try the onion thing

This. We give him the gas drops at every.single.feed- otherwise he is miserable. Took about a day of doing it to get him feeling better consistently, but he is a much happier baby now! Good luck!

My niece, who is a month older than DS1, had horrible gas and the "onion tea" was a life saver!!!

  • The "witching hour". Pretty common, with DS he would cluster feed non stop in the evenings. Does she want to nurse a lot? How do you know she has gas?

Ugh, I had totally forgotten about it.  I just had to hand A off to DH because the squirminess/fussyness was getting to me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. I thought Zoe was gassy at night, too, because she barely cried the first two weeks and then a couple nights ago she started crying for no reason and I thought she had gas or something because she could sometimes be soothed using methods my midwives taught me to deal with gas. When I googled witching hour just now, it's exactly what we've been experiencing. I've been freaking out about my milk supply and quality the last few days because she was cluster feeding like crazy, too.
