So I didn't realize how dependent Eli was on his pacifier. Tonight I had my Mary Kay meeting and expected him to be long asleep when I got home. That was not the case (now keep in mind he's also had a bad cold for about 3 weeks that he can't seem to shake and hadn't napped today so was over tired). But when I got home Eli was crying and DH was looking worn out . Stated he tried laying in his big boy bed, rocking, etc and nothing was working.
The big boy room isn't quite ready yet but the bed is set up (its a full sized platform ikea bed). But there is still too much for him to get into in there that I haven't let him stay all night in the bed...but we have been laying on the bed me and him and he falls asleep much faster and easier than rocking him or putting him in the crib (and its more comfy for me).
But after a bit of trying I couldn't get him to even lay on the bed with me. So I found a spare pacifier (thank goodness) and handed it to him. He popped it in his mouth and RAN (yes full out run) to the big boy bed and laid down. He was asleep a few min later and I moved him to his crib.
I guess DH and I both underestimated the power of the binki.
Re: Binki dependance has reach an all time high....
Caroline still sleeps with her paci. STILL. Yes, she's almost 2 and a half, and we STILL have the paci.
We are making progress though...she's down to one paci in her bed. We used to have three ;-)
Nicholas is 3 and still has his. We really do have to get rid if it though. he has a huge space between his 2 front teeth with that little piece of skin hanging between. The Pedi and the Dentist both say that he may need to have that clipped (a frenectomy). Dentist says that once he gets rid of the Paci, the space should close up. Oh and the paci is pushing his teeth forward (which I can definitely see).
So we have until October to be done with it (that's when he goes back to the Dentist). Everytime I bring up saying bye bye to his Paci, he says "No I do it later". Doesn't matter what I say or offer. New toy, special treat, giving it to the new babies at the hospital- he says no.
Right now he only has it at naps and bedtime. And now we are phasing out naps. In a perfect world, he'll get rid of it before October on his own.
