You might be giving up too soon.  We started cereal on Thursday, and he did really well, but still has the tongue thrust.  Low and behold, today, on day 4, no tongue thrust and he kept much more of the food in his mouth.  I think sometimes it takes a few days/tries to really get the hang of eating.
