2+ mums.. has DH gone back to work yet?

Hi ladies,

My DH went back to work today.  He only took 4 work days off.. DS#2 was considerate enough to arrive on Good Friday and in Australia we get 4 days off for Easter, so DH was lucky.  He's a workaholic.

Anyway, DS#1 went to my Mum's today and I am home with the baby.  So not a big deal at this point, as he just sleeps & eats.  But it does seem like a milestone of sorts, to be on my own now.

I have made a deal with DH that he'll do DS#1 breakfast/morning routine before he leaves for work (as I'm always BFing at that time), and be home by 5pm at the latest, for a while.

How are YOU coping with this?  What are your plans for DC#1?

Re: 2+ mums.. has DH gone back to work yet?

  • DH took one week off, so he went back to work last Monday. My MIL flew in to help last week, but I have been all on my own as of last Thursday.

DS1 has preschool every morning....so, while early mornings are CRAZY with me getting DS1's breakfast, etc and getting us all out the door for the walk to school, I then have at least a few hours to chill with the baby or run errands/do things around the house (we pick up DS1 at 12:15 each day, so after that point the day is a juggling act with no downtime). Evenings are the toughest thus far, because DS2 has his fussy/cluster feeding time from 6-10 or so each night, so dinner, bath, and bed for DS1 is really challenging - he goes to bed at 7:30. DH has promised to be home by 7 at least 2 nights a week, so that will help (he works really long hours, and normally isn't home until 8:30 or 9 on a good night)

This next week will be hard - DS1 is out of school the entire week for spring break and DH will be gone all weekend at a wedding...I am scared!! :)

  • DH took one week off work so he went back last week.  My 6 yr old was on spring break last week so I'm kinda nervous about it being just me and babe this week.  I'm hoping to actually get in a nap or two!

  • DH goes back tomorrow, but my mom and sister are coming for the day, so I don't really count it as an alone day :) I'm nervous about nights, though. The last 2 weeks I've gone to bed early while DH is up with DS, then I've been up the middle of the night with him and DH let me sleep in in the morning. So far tonight DH went to bed at 8 and DS and I are still up at 11, I'm already tired.

  • DH had 11 days off, but we were in the hospital the first 5. I've been on my own for 2 weeks now. Its gone OK, DS is a good boy, we spend lots of time cuddling and reading or watching new movies while I breastfeed. My in laws have taken him twice for lunch and the afternoon. This next 2 weeks DH works 3-11pm which i am really afraid of! Evenings solo soudns impossible, plus my stats final is Wednesday!

  • Yep, but he works from home.  He was working half days while I was in the hospital and has been working ever since.  But, he helps get the kids off to school in the AM.  I just started to get back into part of the AM routine last week, this week I'm hoping to at least do some drop off/pick ups for DD at PreK.  It's hard b/c Asher eats every 2 hours for 45 mins at a time.  Doesn't leave me much time for anything else.  My ILs have been helping with the kids and getting them to/from school, thank heavens.

  • DH went back to work pretty much right away.  He only took one day off when I came home from hospital.  Unfortunately, if DH doesn't work, he doesn't get paid and we aren't in a financial position to handle that.

DS goes to daycare and he loves it.  The structure is great so we saw no reason to change that.  Thankfully, DH is able to drop him off and pick him up and he does not work on the weekends unless one of my family members comes over...(probably more out of self defense than the need for more money...lol)

  • He has two weeks off, but took off one week last week and is back this week, and then will take another week off after his mom leaves (in a week or two). I had a c-section, so need the help with DS since I can't lift him yet and he is still very needy at 18 months old. I'm glad it will still be a while until I am "on my own". Then my mom will be off for summer break soon too as well, so that will be nice to have her come over every couple of days to go do things with.
