DH and I have a boy name we love, but are looking for a unique one syllable girl name. The middle name is my last name (two syllables) and the last name is DH's last name (three syllables) so we would like to have a one syllable girl's name that doesn't sound too girly. I like "Lark" but DH says it sounds too harsh with his last name. He likes "Renn" (and also "Thea" and "Zeta" ...don't get me started!), which just makes me think of "Ren and Stimpy" and also seems a bit made up. What do you guys think? I would love a nature-y sort of name like "Lark" or "Autumn," but DH says it sounds too hippy. I mean, our kid will go to school in Brooklyn or Manhattan...so I don't think a hippy name is too bad.
Any suggestions?
Re: Wren/Renn?
Our naming styles are completely different, just an FYI.
I don't mind Wren (but only spelled this way).
Other suggestions:
Blair, Brynn, Dawn, Eve, Fay, Grace, Gwen, Jade, Jill, June, Layne, Liv, Maeve, Paige, Pearl, Quinn, Rain, Sage, Shae, Tess

I do like Wren but Renn is terrible - yes, reminds me of Ren and Stimpy.
Other possibilities (although not are all 1- syllable):
Rose
Calla
Ivy
Lake
Hazel
Olive
I love Autumn
other options...
Willa,Sage,Stella, Luna,Raine, Skye
Thanks for all the suggestions! That was fast!
He seems to actively dislike the proper spelling of Wren sadly.
I like a lot of the suggestions: Laine, Liv, Tess, Luna and Skylar (although some are two syllable), but he has said "no" to each one. He likes "Willa" but I'm not a fan since we have a dog named Wally.
I am maybe going to have to wait for the 20 week ultrasound and hope for a boy!
I first saw this on actress Lake Bell.... I think it's really pretty but don't think I would have the guts to use it myself...
Wren
One syllable uncommon names: Lux, Bay, Tyne, Sloan, Greer, Love
I probably would not limit the choices to 1 syllable because of the MN. Go with a name you both love or has meaning to you.

I really like Wren.
What about Rue? I know that there has been talk about it being an up-and-coming name...from The Hunger Games, I guess? (No idea. I haven't read the books or seen the movie). I had considered it long before I heard of it's association with that series though.

I love Wren. I think it's so lovely.
And I think it's awesome that you're into Lark! It's on our list. DH sooo wants it to be this baby's name if it's a girl. If you can talk your H into Lark, you should totally do it. But Wren is a lovely alternative. I kind of like the "new" bird names (Wren, Lark, Sparrow, etc.)
Can you have your husband talk to mine?
Thanks, ladies. I told him you guys said "Renn" was a complete no-go and now he is coming around to the proper spelling of Wren. I also like Fern! Thank you for all of the suggestions and advice! We want to keep the name a secret until birth but I need honest (even if brutal) opinions!
I so wouldn't let that hold you back. Willa does not equal Wally -- I don't think anyone would raise their eyebrows. Willa is a beautiful name.
I love Wren. If we were to have another girl Wren would be at the top of our list for sentimental family reasons.
Honestly, I don't worry about the Ren & Stimpy thing. That cartoon hasn't been on the air for over 15 years and isn't really a classic that has major staying power. Wren's classmates won't have any reference to R&S.

I love Wren!
Renn, to me, is a Reniassance Festival.
Definitely Wren over Renn.
