moms of girls- raw spot? diaper rash, thrush, or??

Hi Ladies! I am new here! Excited that I found this board. So my first question...

The best way to describe this is, when i part my LOs vag lips it is EXTREMELY red around the opening. I had pointed this out to our pedi a week ago, and he said it could be thrush because I have had it on my nipples. He suggested nystatin, so i used the same cream i used to treat my boobs.

over the past week, it seems to have gotten worse. it is just as red and now there is a spot that looks raw, like the skin peeled off. almost like a burn? its really odd. I have tried all different diaper rash creams plus the anti fungal, plus i make sure to keep her really dry and change her dipe often.

I have heard of chemical burns from diapers, but wouldnt that be on the exposed skin, not the skin that is "covered"?

we use pampers swaddlers, and sensitive wipes.

anyone have anything like this happen? i am planning on taking her back to the pedi this week but would like some peace of mind...

  • You're adding too many variables into the mix to figure out which one is causing it.  (Maybe you'd call it a blister? not sure)

I would pull back and do just the anti fungal and lots of open air time.

  • Loading the player...
  • I'd definitely put some vaseline on there, and let it air out.  Get some of the underpads (you find them in the adult diapers section at the drugstore) to avoid any accidents while she's diaper free.

     HTH.

PS - How long have you been using the antifungal cream?  It can take a while for it to work.

  • I've been battling the exact same problem for over a month now with DD. First we tried an anti-fungal (like for athlete's foot), that didn't do anything. Then Nystatin and that made it horribly red and raw so I stopped that after only 2 days or so. Our Pedi thought maybe she reacted badly to it and only advised getting her more air dry time. I give her tons of air dry time and use cornstarch (only things that seems to help so far) to keep her dry. We CD but have gone to using sposies at times with lanolin or Aquaphor, Desitin, CJs BUTTer, nothing has fixed it. It starts to get better and then, bam, overnight it gets horrible! I'm sorry I really have NO clue what it is or how to help. But all these things are what haven't worked for me. I'm not sure if it's a yeast build up in our cloth diapers becuase we use the same on both babies, and it's only my DD that has this problem. I've been soaking, bleaching, sunning and double rinsing. I've also doenea kind of sitz bath for her in warm water and baking soda, not sure if it helped much though because we're still battling it.  :-(
