Anyone used this bottle? Is it worth it? I BF but DH usually gives one bottle a day. DD is only okay accepting our current bottle (we use a slow flow Nuk but have also tried an Avent nipple). From what I can tell, DD has a hard time regulating the flow even with the slowest flow Nuk.
Re: Medela Calma...thoughts?
I started BF at week 3 because we had issues with my LO's latch and my milk coming in. In the beginning, we used Born Free bottles and nipples, and we had a choking scare with ithen he was only a few days old - probably our fault as we were feeding him while laying down. Because of it, I didn't think twice about the price of Medela Calma and bought a couple of bottles and nipples. I was really pleased with it because LO can control the flow of milk - it only drips when LO sucks on it. And I think it helped him with going back to BFing too once our issues were resolved. Like with BFing, LO needs to "work" for the milk with Medela Calma.
Hope that helps!
I have mixed reviews on the Calma.
DD took it like a champ from 2 days old (she was in the NICU for a few days) until she was 5 weeks old. I noticed she didn't have any nipple confusion and latched like a champ - I think the calma helped like that, and she didn't choke/gag on it like she did with the one time use bottles they tried to give her in the NICU before my milk came in. (DD's blood sugar was low, so they insisted on giving her formula to supplement.)
But, after 5-6 weeks, she stopped taking the calma, and acted like the longer nipple gagged her. In all fairness, after 6 weeks, she started a huge campaign of bottle rejection, so I'm not sure if it's really the calma or not. We were able to convince her to take a tommee tippee and most recently (and best) a Dr. Brown's, but she's just not interested anymore in the calma.
