Question about newborn photos

I love the newborn professional pics that everyone is having done. Question - this does mean you take them out of the house right? I mean these aren't taken at your home? I am just wondering when is an ok time to take LO outdoors and around the public. I've heard not until 6 weeks but I would love to get newborn pics taken.

Re: Question about newborn photos

  • Many (if not most pros) come to your house. You can have them done in a studio, but most people I know IRL prefer to do them in your own home. As far as taking them out, that varies from person to person as to their own comfort level. We're hermits by nature, but I would have no problem taking LO out in public for something like that. Unless your LO is a preemie, generally they're fine though.

  • my photographer will come to the house with her props.

However, it's a personal preference (and discuss with your dr) about when you take your newborn out of the house. A lot of people take their newborn out right away (just not in crowded places or where a lot of people will touch) and others wait 6 weeks. That's a decision only you can make

  • You can stay in until the baby is six weeks old...if you're ok with not leaving the house for six weeks. I am not that kind of person.

Use common sense- don't let strangers touch or breathe on the baby, and it'll be fine. Newborns sleep most of the time, so they're pretty portable.

  • Our photog came to our house. She has a small studio in her house, but since I was recovering from a c/s she came to us. Our bedroom gets great morning light so she just set up shop in there.

ETA: Our pedi said we could go just about anywhere, but just use common sense when it came to crowds and people actually touching/being near baby. We did family Easter when he was 11 days old and just made everyone be vigilant about hand washing and said no touching or kissing his face. DS has since gone on quite a few errands!

  • Our photog is coming to the house as well.  Ditto PP's who said it's a personal preference as to when you take LO out.  We don't go out much anyhow but think of all the single mom's with other children.  They couldn't possibly wait 6 weeks to go out.  GL

  • Our pediatrician told us that this is the best time of year to have a baby because the flu season is wrapping up and there aren't as many viruses going around. He told us we could take LO out as soon as we felt comfortable and to make sure people didn't touch her unless they washed hands/ hand sanitized first. She is 8 days old and we took her to the mall today. Tomorrow, we are getting er newborn photos done at our photog's studio

  • Our photographer typically does the newborn photos 7-10 days old. LO spent 8 days in the NICU and our hospital photos turned out great so we decided to just do photos with the photographer in three months. We would of had to drive to her studio.
  • The hospital where I delivered had a company that came around and took pics right in your room.  They came out really nice, and I am glad we did them.
