Admitting my ignorance

People keep asking me if the baby has dropped and, to be honest, I have no idea! It's never been hard for me to breathe, and I've not had heartburn. I carry oddly and have this whole pregnancy. My OB said she can't touch LO's head, yet the ultrasound tech had to go way down just to see her head.

Dilation has also been tricky. I went from a fingertip dilated, to nothing, to 2cm to 1cm as the weeks have gone on. My cervix has gone from "very soft" to "paper thin" which means progress, but I don't know if it is significant progress or not.

I'm a FTM and I'm worried that if LO doesn't drop soon that I'll end up with a c-section. I'm sitting on my exercise ball to encourage her to go down, but I don't know if it's working or not. I've occasionally felt jolts of pain in my vagina and pressure, but it isn't constant and I haven't felt it in a while.

I guess I'm basically freaking out since today is the EDD and I'm feeling like I'll be KU forever! Anyone have any reassurances to give?

Re: Admitting my ignorance

  • My only reassurance I can give is that most ftm's go to 41 weeks 5 days. I would not allow a section before then. Try to stay relaxed. That's the best you can do for now. Do anything and everything you can to mentally distract yourself.

  • I'm a FTM and when LO was born two days late, he stayed up in my ribcage until I started pushing. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

  • You aren't alone with baby being up in your rib cage and not knowing if you've dropped etc. I'm right there with you. Don't worry about it too much, I've heard from more FTM that baby didn't drop until their water broke.
