My prefolds and covers do not leak, but DS's skin is very wet. He even has some irritation, redness and bumps, like a heat rash or something. I guess I didn't think this was a part of cloth diapering - is it? Is there anything I can do to increase absorbancy in a prefold? I don't think I have room for another insert or anything, and I never heard anyone on this board talking about doing that. We are using infant 4x8x4 unbleached with a variety of covers. I change him whenever he is awake or every other awakening if he falls back to sleep too quickly.
Thank you!
Re: Prefolds = wet baby?
How often are you changing (in hours, not wakenings?)
Prefolds will feel wet, since they're just cotton. You don't need extra absorbency as long as he isn't leaking. What you might want to try is fleece liners, they will keep your baby dry. You can make your own by buying microfleece at the fabric store and cutting it into rectangles.
Also, do you use any diaper cream/lotion/etc.? I use CJ's butter whenever DS is looking a little red and it seems to help.
