3rd Trimester

Maternity Clothes Sizing

Hi, first tri lurker asking a question about maternity clothes sizing.

It seems to me the general rule is what ever size you were pre-pregnancy; they suggest that same size in maternity.

Did everyone find this to be true? Did you find that same size fit you through out your pregnancy? TIA

Re: Maternity Clothes Sizing

  • Different brands fit differently and even different items at the same stores fit differently.  For me, Target stuff runs small, while most Gap and Old Navy run large.  Plus, some things that were comfortable earlier in pregnancy are no longer comfortable.

  • Everything fit me in the same size as I would get pre-preg. I wore size 2/4/S in Target, size 4/XS/S in Old Navy, and XS/S in Motherhood and I am 5'6", Pre-preg 125lbs 34D, preg currently 150lbs 36DD. Hope that helps.

  • I was the same size in my pp as maternity clothes -- I wear 0/XS/or size 24 in my jeans in maternity clothes and they fit to the very end.

  • All my size small maternity fit throughout my pregnancy, except for the 1 pair of jeans I bought in a small. They have been too tight in the last couple iof weeks!

  • Yes, I've been the same size throughout.  I was an XS/0-2 before and that's what I've worn this whole pregnancy.  The only thing that has changed is that in 2nd tri, those under-belly/no panel pants fit me best, and now I prefer the full panel b/c it stays up better and doesn't press on my bump.  Fortunately, I haven't spent a lot f money on maternity clothes.

  • That's only true if you only gain weight in your belly.  If some of it goes to your hips and thighs also, you might find that the meternity pants in your pre-pg size don't fit anymore.  This happened to me around the end of 2nd tri --- fortunately, I had bought a couple of pairs of jeans in the next size up, just in case, and can get away with wearing yoga pants and leggings most days.  I have a couple of stretchy dresses for the rare occasions when I need to look a little nicer.

  • For me the size I wore pre-preggo (Petite XL) is the same size I wear in maternity - I haven't had any trouble finding maternity clothing that fits.

Also, as another poster mentioned, I wear the full pannel pants because I find them to be MUCH more comfortable... tThe under-the-bump stuff makes me feel like I have a beer belly hanging over my pants and puts pressure on my torso.

  • I found that to be true during the 2nd tri. I have gained a little more than just belly so now in the 3rd tri I need to go the next size up. I was a size 4 before and now I'm a 6. I also used to do xs/s for shirts but a lot of my maternity shirts are getting too small for my bump so I need to get some mediums. Good luck!

This except I went from a medium to a large, I can still wear mediums but the larges are much more comfortable and I am not worried about flashing my bump to the world.
