Trouble TTC

xp: Got the "official" call

Not to my surprise with all my negative pregnancy tests I have taken this week, I got the call that IUI #2 (my 4th procedure) did not work. I seriously don't know what to do or say. I have now in 32 years and 4 procedures later have never been pregnant for 1 day. Maybe my body cannot get pregnant, how would one know that. I am beyond devastated and broke. For the first time I don't have a next plan.

With my husband in law school there is truly NO more money, we have exhausted all measures, family, our own money, tax money etc. Truly at a loss and don't know what, if anything, to do next. At what point do you "Cut your losses" as my father so eloquently put it at Easter.

Re: xp: Got the "official" call

  • I'm so sorry, Megan. Have you guys considered a break? What a horrible position to be in and your dad needs kicked in the shins. Its a decision you and your husband have to make- though it won't be easy.

I see now you're DOR and had 2 failed IVFs. Did you ever try donor eggs? Would you be comfortable with that? I'm sorry if my questions are inappropriate. I'm just thinking out loud.

    Again, I'm so sorry. :(

Your questions are not inappropriate at all. This was my first cycle since being diagnosed with DOR, so it is a newer thing that we have faced. I am not there yet but definitely something that needs to be talked about. My step sister has offered her eggs to me as well. So we just have a lot to think about.

The sad thing is we did actually take a 6 month break (still tried naturally) but a break from the IF world. I had to have major hip surgery so from July to January we took a break.  We went to a new RE, had DH tested again things looked so much better and she advised us to try IUI. After my 1st IUI was when I asked to have my AMH tested, you see my AF count is not that bad for my age. So I am all screwed up. I would love the chance to do IVF again now that I have a proper diagnosis and treat it accordingly. I could be way too optimistic but I am just not ready to give up on me yet, I know that the time is coming but I am not there.

I would like to try and find some money (maybe rob a  bank, haha) and have at least and ER and freeze my eggs for now until DH gets out of law school. Again so much to think about.

Thank you for your support and I need people that ask me questions like this and people that understand NOT LIKE MY FATHER.

    Thank you,

    Megan

  • Everyone's level of "where will we stop" is different and may change with treatments.  I personally know we only have one more IUI left.  And then in order to pay for OOP IVF we will need to either save for two years, get money from family, or rob a bank.  We might start saving and give up.  We may win the lottery.  I don't know what lies ahead but I know that hearing that negative after the treatments you can afford, must be devastating.

Maybe once your H graduates law school he will get hired at a place that has IF coverage.  You never know.  But huge (((HUGS))) to you.  I know the uncertain road ahead is hard to even contemplate right now.  Let yourself have a few days to just grieve this cycle before really thinking about the future.

How long til your DH graduates? Maybe once he's working you'll be able to afford the IVF with DOR protocol? DOR has to be so rough. IF sucks all around.
