Babies: 0 - 3 Months

3.5mon.=good napper to not so good napper?

Ds has been napping very predictably for about a month up until last week. He was ready for a nap every 1.5-2 hours and was napping in swing with it off. I then started moving his naps to the crib....we have gotten 2 out of 4 naps successfully into the crib :-) YAY!!! his 3rd nap, which is his longest is still in the swing and it used to be for at least 2-3 hours, now it is about an 1.5 hour but when he wakes up he is clearly still tired and will be up for about 20-30 minutes and ready to go back to sleep again for an hour.

He was taking 4 naps a day...2 45 minute ones, 2-3 hours one midday and then another 30-45 minute on in the late afternoon. Now they are all over the place and sporadic...someone suggested that at this age babies are so much more alert and observant that it sometimes screws with their napping.

has anyone else experienced this when your baby was around 3.5-4.5 months?

just curious....something must be going on because we haven't changed anything lately that would cause a disruption in his napping, at least nothing I can think of. he has blackout curtains, we have a nap routine that he settles down quickly for once we start, he isn't hungry, it's quiet, the fan is on for white noise...I am perplexed, lol!!!

  • It started around 3 or 3.5 months for us.  I think it is just because they are starting to learn so many things that they'd prefer being awake and learning/exploring over sleeping.  At least that's my guess.  DS takes random 20-40 minute naps throughout the day.
