Growth spurts - preemies (XP)

I also posted this on 0-3...

DS was born 3.5 weeks early. I'm wondering if his growth spurts will come "on time," or 3.5 weeks late (meaning, counting from his EDD rather than birthday). Does anyone have experience with this? Do late-term preemies have their growth spurts based on their actual age, or adjusted? I didn't notice a 2-week growth spurt, but that may be because he spent the first few weeks eating constantly anyway. Just wondering if I should be expecting the six-week growth spurt soon.

Re: Growth spurts - preemies (XP)

  • I think it can go either way an it depends on the baby. Growth spurts are often at those common times but can be different as well. Both my kids were Around 5 weeks early and I know I often felt like especially in the first weeks my son was going thru growth spurts based on BOTH edd and age! Because they often "catch up". I think Eliya is just finishing up a spurt she's 3 weeks, so not even "due" yet!

  • I'm glad you asked. I feel like Micah has gone through numerous growth spurts recently and I'm dreading the 6 week one, especially not knowing when it could happen.
