Pregnancy irritability and older children

I am pregnant with my second child and these hormones seem to have zapped away all my patience and replaced it with irritability. Do any veteran moms have tips to regain the patience and not feel like such a bad mom to my poor two year old?

 Thank you for any advice!!

Re: Pregnancy irritability and older children

  • Is there any way you can get some time to yourself? Sometimes I leave DD home with DH for an evening and go out to dinner and shopping by myself. I know I'll be doing this a lot more often in the near future!

  • My husband is so understanding and would definitely support some alone time. That might be just what I need. Thank you for the great idea! Sometimes I forget what a difference an hour or two to yourself will make.

  • Luckily I've only had 1 real mood swing so far, but I just tried to step back and remind myself that soon enough I will have two little ones, and our family will be changed. It has helped me to focus on really enjoying this time with DD as our only.

  • I noticed that last night.  I had zero patience.  I finally took five minutes to myself and just locked myself away, leaving DH and DD to deal.

  • It can be hard to keep your cool but like PP have said take some time to yourself and try to enjoy the time you have left with your LO being your only! GL!! I know it can be hard!
  • Thank you!!!  I am so glad I'm not the only one!  My mood swings have already started... I have lost my temper over little things, felt nostalgic for time with DS being "the only", and frustrated to tears about potty training!

So thankful for DH and other family/friends that have already offered to give me time by myself, but I would really like to maintain as much sanity as possible so that I can treasure the rest of the time of DS being the only!
