Washing (and prepping) question

I was looking at my washer this weekend my FL HE washer has a button for pre-soak and an extra rinse. Well two buttons I guess. If I add those two options will that be enough water/rinsing/whatever else needed for proper cleaning? And would I need to run the washer on that when I run my prep loads or would normal wash and dry work for prep (I have mostly used and MF so I know that's only one wash).
