biophysical profile-? & a brief update :)

Hey ladies!

So i had my 31 week visit friday, but my ob was on vacation, so i had to see another dr from the group, she was nice but not the same, so i called today to follow up with my ob, so she said she wants me in next week, i'll be 32 weeks, she wants to do a, a biophysical profile...what exactly is the difference between an u/s and a biophysical profile? is it just more indepth like the a/s? i know i've heard them mentioned on the board before, but i never really knew what it entailed, any info?

and then she said after next week, i'll more than likely be starting weekly checks & nst's, which i'm excited about, it means countdown to LO is getting closer!!!

one of my girlfriends let it slip that she got my shower invite, so i know it's coming soon, i can't wait, and i can't believe my sisters have kept it a surprise for so long LOL  i can't wait to start getting baby stuff at home to start getting things set up!!

one of my SIL bought me a vera bradley baby bag this weekend, i am so psyched, just makes it all feel so real

so that's it, just a quick ? and a quick update on me!

Can't help with biophysical profile, but just want to say that what a great update & I'm glad things are progressing so smoothly!  And a sweet SIL you have!  Have fun at your surprise shower.

I'm pretty sure a BPP is just a detailed u/s to check on the baby, placenta, amniotic fluid level, etc.  plus I believe they also usually hook you up to an external fetal monitor for awhile to get a longer read of the baby's heartrate than you get from just a doppler check.

A BPP is just a more detailed u/s... they will usually check heart rate, AFI (fluid levels), and watch the baby's movements, if they are practicing breathing/swallowing, and see how they move arms/legs around.  Sometimes it will include a growth scan as well where they'll measure head and stomach circumference, length, and weight.  I had twice weekly BPPs and NSTs (Non-Stress Test -- where they put monitor on you to watch for contractions and you push a button whenever you feel baby kick so they can check activity levels with their heart rate patterns, want to see it go up/down with movement, etc.) in my third trimester due to IUGR and decreased movement.  GL!

thank you so much!!! yea i think because of the GD and being on insulin, they will be monitoring me weekly from now on to keep track of baby's growth, i guess so i don't deliver a ginormous baby LOL
