My friends are having a girl in June. They have decided to name her Annabelle Charlotte. I'm not a huge fan of Annabelle, but both names are honoring deceased relatives. Their older son is named Maxwell (Max) Richard.
I just don't' get this Annabelle craze. I can not imagine a 30 year old woman named Annabelle. I guess she could use Ann or Anna. Meh.
It worked for Annabel Lee, the subject of Edgar Allen Poe's poem written in 1849.
I really like Annabelle and it was on our list forever but Dh has suddenly vetoed it. We love Charlotte as well. I don't mind long names, prefer them to short ones.

I also thought of EAP, one of my favorite poems by him.
Annabelle isn't my favorite (but I rarely love names that sound or appear "compound"... like she has two first names) It is a nice, feminine name, though, and I did know an adult named Annabelle (it sounded okay... certainly much nicer and more classic than a lot of crazy names I've seen on little girls!).
Charlotte is a great name, but so popular it makes me sad!
Maxwell reminds me of the coffee (I think I am in the minority here haha as I prefer Maximilian). Richard is a nice strong, underused male name.

I don't know if that really counts as 'working for' someone as she's not real... and she was dead... it's not like we ever heard that she had a successful life or anything.
I'm also not sure how well Annabelle ages, though it's adorable and lends itself to plenty of NNs that sound more adult, so overall I approve. I think the FN/MN combination is nice. And I'm tired of Charlotte as a FN, but I never see it in the MN spot.
I think Charlotte Annabelle has a better flow to it.
LOVE Maxwell!

I meant that at least in 1849 it was believable as an adult name. Now, a woman having a successful or noteworthy life in 1849 I'd argue as hard for those audiences to beieve so I think you might be asking for too much. I could also be skewed by DH's southern family tree that has like 42 women with a double name with Belle. I would think Annabelle is likely to be shortened so that might be another factor in picturing an adult named it.
Re: Baby Girl
Just kind of seeing what everyone else thought. I also think it's really long, although they have a short last name, so it kind of works.
I know a 35 year old woman named Annabelle. I don't see it necessarily as a little girl name.
I like the name very much.
