I saw a few of you reference barley in your cereal option that you mix in with your veggies, etc. Where have you found barley? Which brand (gerber, beechnut) carries it? I haven't seen it anywhere.
Second, what is the best way to make the purees a bit chunkier? I have a magic bullet and a handheld. Is it trial & error?
Re: Two solids questions (chunky purees & barley)
We use this multi-grain cereal which has barley in it. https://www.happybabyfood.com/ourproducts?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=62&category_id=16
As for the purees, it's just trial and error.
We found barley in our local Safeway grocery store. It was just a bag of organic barley...I can't remember the brand. We chop it up in the baby bullet and cook it with water like any other grain, it looks kind of like couscous when it's cooked. A little thicker and chunkier. I think it's a great transition to chunky purees.
ETA: and yeah, I think making chunkier purees with the Bullet, at least, is pretty trial and error. I had pretty good success with carrots in it. Not so much pears, so far.
I buy Gerber's barley cereal. I have found it in Wal Mart, A&P, Shop Rite, Stop n Shop, and Path Mark.
