I have found that soft inserts just don't work with my toddler/mobile child. The soft inserts end up squishing together between her legs so when she pees it gets all over the cover and gets her pants damp. This has happened with gCloth, flip organic cotton inserts, and Thirsties duo insert. I'm finding that a mobile baby needs thick inserts to avoid "squishing". This doesn't happen with flip stay dry inserts or my BG 4.0. Even with the Thirsties pockets the insert still squishes together and is so bulky that we can't zip or snap her jeans, even though they fit over her other dipes. I guess I'm stuck with flips for daytime and my BG 4.0 for night. I would love to be able to afford enough 4.0's for daytime, but that's just too expensive, even if bought used. Oh well...

I've had the problem with prefolds and flips, but not with pockets or AIOs.
Maybe try doubling? Hemp or bamboo is thinner than MF, try those in your pockets instead?
