Pumping after breast surgery

Long story short I had to have surgery on my areola, it got infected and turned in to gangrene. I can't bf my 7 month old dd on that side so I have to pump. Problem is I can't get the pump to suction on over the dressing. Taking the dressing off I can get the pump to attach but it pulls on the surgical site and is very painful . Any ideas on how to make this work? I'm getting really engorged on that side and am extremely uncomfotable.

  • Ouch! That sounds awful. I have no experience or education on this but could you try putting something silicone (like a nipple shield) or otherwise smooth over the dressing along with maybe some lanolin or something similar to create a seal while keeping the wound covered?
