Breastfeeding

mastitis again???

WTF!!! (sorry for the implied language).

Every time we think we have this BF thing down, something else comes up. Just had mastitis in the other breast 3 weeks ago. Was seeing OB today anyway, luckily.

We had just  "graduated" from the LC, too, where she thought we had it down and didn't need to see her anymore.

The only thing that keeps me going is knowing how good BFing is for DS, and thinking about the bond we're hopefully forming by working so hard at it.

*sigh*

Re: mastitis again???

  • Ugh, mastitis sucks. Do you have an oversupply or get plugged ducts frequently? If you have an oversupply, you can try blockfeeding to reduce your supply. You only nurse on one side per feeding and you nurse on the same side for a couple feedings in a row to really empty that side. You can also take lecithin to help prevent plugged ducts. The site kellymom.com has more info. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I'm so sorry!! I had it in February and again in March. I seriously considered weaning after the March infection but I kept at it and I'm so glad I did. You can make it and good luck!
