Re: did you freeze meals before baby was born?

  • I wish that I had done a few meals, but we were VERY lucky that so many family members brought us meals.

Another note.... my mom made and froze dozens of blueberry pancakes. They were great! I ate them at all hours, just threw them in the toaster and had a meal. I wish that I had more things like that, b/c I never had time to eat a full sit down meal anyway! :)

  • I voted that I didn't and it hasn't been an issue.

When DD was born my parents came and stayed for a week. They cooked, cleaned, and even bought us tons of baby stuff. My mom froze one meal and a bunch of Spaghetti sauce w/ meatballs for us. (She home makes it and I am obsessed) After they left I went to the store and bought some more convenient meals... like Bertolli pasta dishes.

It has not been much of an issue though.  We have been eating a lot of leftovers from meals given to us but I know that I would be able to throw dinner together on my own. Nothing complicated, but something good.

  • Other people made us meals and it has been so nice.  I still don't have time to make dinner especially now that she is fussy in the evenings!

  • DD arrived a month early so I only had 3 in the freezer by the time she got here, but it wasn't an issue that I didn't have more. I'm the type that likes to be up and doing something and I have actually been enjoying my extra time to cook so much that I've been continuing to make 2 of freezable meals so I have a pretty good stock in the deep freeze now.

We don't have family in the area and we got by the first couple weeks on easy meals like spaghetti and tacos, but it was nice to have a couple casseroles for something different.

  • I voted "I didn't, but wish I had."  We didn't freeze meals b/c DH is usually in charge of dinner.  Well in my 8th month he ruptured his Achilles tendon so he has been out of commission since.  HOWEVER, we've been very fortunate w/ relatives and friends giving us meals and we haven't had to prepare a dinner yet.
  • I didn't freeze and it was no big deal. the only thing I froze was vodka sauce and pasta sauce that I made before he was born.

no one stayed with us.  I didn't want them to.  The first week Mike was home with me and he just made easy things or ordered out.

After that my parents would visit and bring food, we would order out or we would have easy meals again.

When I say easy meals, I mean pasta or already prepared chicken from the store and we would make sides, etc.

By the 3rd week I started cooking again.  Mike would hold the baby, his bonding time since he worked all day and I would get time to myself and cook.  I enjoy cooking.
