Looking into daycares

I know it's early- but we'll probably tour daycares in the summer since MH is off- so I wanted to pick some before then.  

I'm finding the hours of all the daycares around here to be difficult.  they are open until 6.  A lot of people- including me- work until 6- so I'd love one open until 7.  Luckily- MH gets off before 6 so he'll be able to p/u the kiddo most days. 

I did find one place with late hours until 11:30, but not for the newborn/infant daycare- that's until 6.  

Luckily- I think I found a good place- a friend of mine uses it and it's affordable. And I trust that it's a great place b/c per her line of work- she basically did a background check on everyone.  This place also has part time available- some places make you pay full time even if you just need 3days/week. And they are fine with us taking summer off from daycare (hubs can watch the kiddo in the summer)

I'm glad you found a good place.  We haven't even started looking yet, I guess we really need to get on that.

That sounds great!  It is really hard to find places open past 6pm, and finding a place to take part-timers without having to still pay full-time rates is really hard!  Being able to take summers off without having to pay to hold a spot is practically non-existent.  Sounds like you found a great option... hope it holds up when you get to go tour it!  GL!

You may want to go ahead and get on the wait list now, depending on how in demand infant spots are at daycares in your areas.  It is not uncommon for daycares here to have wait list up to a year.

I paid my deposit and reserved the last spot available for October  at my #2 place back in Jan.  and I am still on on the wait list for my #1 spot (hopefully we will find out soon if we will have a spot their in Oct. or not). 

In my state they can only have 5 babies per 1 worker in the infant rooms and most daycares here only take 10 infants at a time.  This makes spots at the best daycares hard to get if you don't start early.

if you need any help in anyway, let me know, i'm the director of a daycare here in ny, so if you need ideas for questions or things to look for, etc, i'd be happy to help   but it sounds like you have a good place in mind!  just make sure  that the daycare gives background/fingerprint clearances, and that they do the same on all staff members!

We don't need day care until Sept either but we have started looking and have had bad luck so far.  All the ones recommended to us have no openings and/or out of budget for the fact that we are only needing part time.  So I would say the earlier you can get a jump on this, the better!
