Blebs and milk blisters help!!

This is my fourth child that I am nursing and the first time I am experiencing blebs n milk blisters. I got my first one when she slept a 6 hr span at night and missed a feeding. Since then I get multiple blebs. Sometimes two on one nipple and one on the other at the same time. I am in so much pain n don't know why this keeps happening. No matter how much I let her nurse she can't seem to work it out for me. I have had to soak n pop them myself which is excruciating. Can Anyone tell me why this is happening n what I can do to stop it. I feel the only way out is to wean her at this point. Spoke to LC and they told me some women r just prone to them n cannot nurse bc of it. Why didn't it happen with my other three the?

Re: Blebs and milk blisters help!!

  • I had them constantly first time around. The blockages kept leading to mastitis and after my 3rd case I was told I'd probably have to stop nursing. After doing a bunch of reading online I started taking 4800 mg of lecithin a day. I had to take it every day until DD weaned, but the blisters cleared up and I never got mastitis again, something to consider. I also used a spray made with grapefruit seed extract while the existing blisters were healing. There's some great info on kellymom: https://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplebleb/ Good luck, I know how painful it is!

  • I realized mine were from wearing disposable breast pads. Apparently my boobies didn't like the plastic liner. I have since gone to all cotton, washable pads or nothing at all. The cotton helps my nipples breate better. I HATE milk blisters, mine were so painful, toe curling.
