Hi. I'm Req.
I'm not 100% sure I belong here, but then I'm not really sure where exactly I belong. I don't really feel like I fit in on TTGP anymore, and I've spent some time on TTCAL and I like it there... but I feel like I'm somewhere between TTTC and TTCAL.
My Story:
DH and I started TTC in January 2011. I got pregnant in August (Cycle 8), and unfortunately miscarried in September at ~8.5 weeks. Pretty sure it was a blighted ovum, it never grew past 5.5wks. TTA for one cycle, at the doc's recommendation. Then in November I got pregnant again right away... this time only for a matter of days, it was a c/p. Another doctor ordered TTA cycle, and we resumed TTC.
And now, four failed cycles of TTC after the c/p, we made an appointment with a fertility clinic.
I hope I don't sound too impatient, we have been trying for over a year. With 30 looming overhead, I know my eggs aren't getting any younger. DH turns 36, and he's not getting younger, either. I've also noticed my period has changed significantly since the m/c, and it makes me worry about the quality of my lining. Finally, this last cycle I had an 8 day LP. They've always been on the shorter-side of normal, usually around 11 days... not to mention the spotting -- oh! the spotting! But, seriously, 8 days?! WTF?!
Just before I got pregnant, DH was getting paranoid about his swimmers. He wanted to do a SA, and I figured it was the easiest place to start to see if there was anything wrong. The night before he went to get his results I got my BFP, so the doctor didn't really discuss them at length. Looking back at the sheet with the results, his count is good, but volume is a little low, and motility is slightly lower than average -- much lower in one direction. Overall, not so bad, and clearly able to get the job done, but not stellar, either.
So, that's where we are. We made our initial appointment with a fertility clinic for April 25th. I have no idea what to expect. Ok, I guess I kind of do... I know they'll want to repeat MH's SA, and I'll get CD3 & CD21 BW, and probably a HSG. I guess where we go from there depends on the results of all that. I am hopeful about formulating a plan, but at the same time terrified.
I never thought I would be so afraid of dye in my life. (And a few years ago, when I went to the ER with horrible stomach pain [later diagnosed as Celiac's Disease] they injected me with dye to see if it was my appendix... and the contrast made me feel like I was peeing myself. Yet the thought of injecting dye into my ute/tubes literally terrifies me!)
So, hi. That's my story. I hope you guys will have me, because I'm feeling pretty lost and alone right now.
Re: New here, if you'll have me (m/c mentioned) ~ long
Hi Req! I remember you from back in my TTGP days. Welcome to the board so sorry you have to be here. I think that this is the place you should be. After a year of trying with 2 losses, it's time to get an opinion, even if the opinion is that you should wait a few more months. There could be some type of blood clotting issue here and they might want to test a few things.
Did you test every cycle or just wait for AF and if it was late you tested? I guess the real question is are you sure there were no other possible c/p's in the time you've been trying. If there is a possibility there was others, they may want to do a repeated loss panel just to be sure. Losses are just as much a fertility issue if after a year you have no take home baby. The only difference is you'll find your treatment may be a little different. I'm not even positive they will do the HSG in the beginning. Sometimes RE's go a bit of a different approach with someone in your and my situation.
With the shorter LP I'm thinking low progesterone or luteal phase defect. I lost my pregnancy due to low progesterone, now I'm on high doses of progesterone in oil. Even with 11 days it still is a little on the lower side, it's long enough to get pregnant, however it does indicate that further investigation should be done to rule out low p4.
If your appointment for your clinic comes after the second part of your cycle, I'd call in on 7dpo and ask for a draw if you haven't already had one. Even your OB can do it. This is the easiest thing to eliminate. Since you got pregnant twice I think your tubes and his sperm aren't the for front concerns.
Also, if you can get your OB to order some of the initial work up it may speed up the testing process and get you on track to a plan quicker. Usually it takes a cycle or two of investigation before a plan is established. Depending on where you are in your cycle it could be 3 months from now that you start treatments. So if you feel impatient it would be a good start but not necessary if not.
Good luck, sorry my response is long! I just don't think you should be too concerned over the HSG right now. If anything it'll likely be a hysteroscopy. When my year passed I was not required to do another HSG like most are because I have had a pregnancy before.

Thanks so much for the welcome, ladies. While I hate seeing so many familiar faces, it helps to know I'm not alone.
To answer your questions adoruhbul (looks like this is going to be long, too):
I am a POAS-aholic. I've tested every single cycle, and the c/p gave me a positive at 8DPO (I swore I wasn't going to test that day, but then I "felt" pregnant)... and that's made me a little crazy in the head, so I always test it out (I'm very thankful for ICs) - though I was already an early tester.
With my first pregnancy, I had spotting the whole time, starting around 5ish weeks. I suggested to my OB that they should check my progesterone, and the doctor said they didn't think they'd need to because I have no history of loss. With the c/p, I *insisted* they check my progesterone when they did betas, and they said it came back normal (I didn't think to ask for the number - my beta was only 9, four days after my first HPT+, so I knew it was over). I will ask my OB to do my 7DPO bw, which should be a few days before my RE appointment. Unfortunately, yesterday was CD3, so I kind of dropped the ball on that one.
I got my LP up to 13 days for a cycle or two by taking B6, but that apparently didn't last (still taking it). I have spotting at the beginning and end of AF, and "CD1" is usually just my best guess. This cycle I called CD1 when I went to PIAC and it was red. That's what I mean when I say AF has changed. Before the m/c, I had spotting, but not as much on either side, and AF itself was ... thicker, and mostly came out on the pads. Now it seems thinner, almost watery, and primarily comes out when I pee. (Sorry if that's TMI) The worst part is that the first few days seem borderline heavy spotting/light AF, so I feel like I still have hope.
I've never had any testing done before, and I'm probably just making assumptions, and should see what my new doctor says.
Thanks again for the warm welcome, ladies. I look forward to getting to know you all better (though nobody wants to be here long).
P/SAIF Welcome
