Infertility

Phew, great day at the RE's office (with a minor scare)

I'm approx. a month away from starting my IVF #1 cycle. Was awaiting post d&c AF which arrived last Thursday so had my HSG today to look at my uterus and see if there were any issues there from any of the three d&c's I've had.

So I arrived approx. a half hour early and asked to speak with the Financial Counselor who is in charge of submitting my insurance approval info (they did it all for me) so the last piece they needed for the IVF/PGD approval was the Genetic Counselor's note from our meeting last week (a pre-requsite for IVF) so I was going to ask if she needed anything else from me and she said they already received my formal approval! That was QUICK! Approved one IVF w/ PGD (+ u/s, meds, etc) I am so thankful to live in Massachusetts. We were concerned about the PGD part (since my clinic does day 5 a-CGH, to test all 24 chromosomes) anyway, they approved it all yesterday. Great timing.

Then, I asked to speak to my nurse (PGD patients have a dedicated nurse) she and I have been playing phone tag for a week now so I thought if she had a second I wanted to meet her. She's awesome, took the time to explain a bunch of things to me and said after my Dr. apt next Tuesday (where I'll get my protocol) to ask to see her and we'll set our dates! PGD picks the ET/ER dates in advance (since a geneticist needs to be present) and then works backwards from there for all the meds, etc.

Lastly, the reason I was there, my HSG. Went just fine we were mostly looking at my uterus. She said it looked good and tubes were open. Then I went to the restroom to put my clothes back on and when I came back out she said "actually, at closer look there is this one area that I see. I'll show it to your Dr., he may want to do a saline or a hysterectomy" YIKES!! I walked out feeling deflated :(

Well no sooner did I get in my car and call my H to tell him the bad news when I had another call. It was the PA calling back to say "I just ran into your dr. in the hallway and he reviewed your HSG results and is not concerned at all about that area. You are fine. He'll see you next week at your regular appt. I didn't want you to worry so I wanted to call you right away."

Seriously, she made my day by getting back to me so quick. I'm on cloud nine today. Insurance- CHECK. HSG-CHECK H's SA-CHECK (he did that yesterday) and Appt. to go over protocol (next Tuesday)- CHECK.

I am so nervous and excited. I'm sure you ALL know that feeling....thanks for letting me share. I'm feeling better and better about this process everyday....

  • That's great that things are moving forward. But MAN, to throw out a hysterectomy!?!?. Did they really me a hysteroscopy? Either way I am glad they didn't see the need to do anything!

  • I wonder if she's on an iPad. It auto corrects hysteroscopy to hysterectomy. I once posted to someone that they might need a hysterectomy. I freakin HATE autocorrect it has gotten me in accidental situations that could be read horribly often!  Now she may have actually typed hysterectomy but figured I'd mention!
