BFing 2 months, sudden nipple pain.

I have been EBF and started back at work when DS was 6 weeks.  I had been pumping morning and night when I was home to get a good freezer stash, which worked great!  Now that I'm at work I pump every 3 hours at work and have been doing this for over 3 weeks now.  In the past two days I noticed that my nipples are killing me!!! I also have these very small red dots on my nipples.  Almost blood blister like......from what i've researched it says that my flanges on my pump might be too small? Would this be a sudden problem or wouldn't I have noticed they were too small and killing my nipples when I started pumping? TIA!

  • Are you lubricating the flanges?  Could friction be irritating them?

  • you may not have noticed when you were pumping just to create a freezer stash. now that you're using the pump frequently everyday, they may be more irritating without as much of a break in between.
