I offered water in a sippy after meals when he started solids, but honestly he never drank more than a few drops until he decided he liked his straw cup. I still just offer it after meals. He takes a few good sucks on the straw, but I would say it's only 1-2 oz per day.
Yep, we offered water in a sippy cup with meals. We started out with this one from Munchkin, because it's easier to get water out of than the ones with the no-spill valves. Though I just use them valve-free until they get bigger, though it's messier.
We started offering in a sippy cup around 7 months, but he never drank more than the smallest sip until around 9 months. Now he can drink as much water as he wants during meals. If he's eating mostly finger food, he tends to drink more as it's dryer food, and less if he's eating something like yogurt, but we just let him decide. He's started walking more now and is in the early toddler room at daycare and is much more active, so I know they offer a drink every hour and I leave a sippy around the house on weekends so he can drink as he pleases. My best guess is that he's drinking somewhere around 4-5 oz, but I don't actually know. It hasn't impacted his milk intake at all.
