Trouble TTC

What is a Office Hysteroscopy and Cervical Mapping?

I already have questions.. What is an office hysteroscopy? Does it hurt? Is like any other test we have done? Also, I am unsure what cervical mapping is? I just got a list of things to do to prepare for IVF and these are the only ones I have no clue about.

If you know what they are please let me know, I googled it and it sounds like a test I had done already?

  • I haven't heard those terms before. Interesting. I have to do a SHG and a trial transfer to prepare for IVF, so I'm wondering if they're the same thing, maybe?

  • I have had 3 in office hysteroscopies.  2 were to check for polyps and 1 was to remove the polyps.  Im not sure if its the same thing you are talking about, but the hysteroscopy is just a camera inserted into your uterus.  Its fairly uncomfortable, but nothing like an HSG.  While he was in there, he looked at how my uterus was shaped and said it was great looking to maintain a pregnancy.

Im *assuming* its to see if you cervix is shaped properly and the right size to maintain a pregnancy?

I wouldnt stress too much about it.  I took an 800mg motrin beforehand and was fine.

  • They did not remove them during the first hysteroscopy.  The second one was an "operative" hysteroscopy where he removed them.  I have seen different experiences on here with that.  My RE does them, and I do not get put to sleep.  I was given a valium and he removed 2 of them.  It was pretty painful but over fairly quickly.  I had the 3rd because the u/s tech saw something when she was in there.  It ends up that I do have another very small one, but its so small he doesnt think it needs to be removed.  My uterus has sort of a hump to it, and he thinks that is what she saw.

My RE does not allow my H in the room during the test or during the removal.

Honestly, its not bad.  Did you have an HSG?  The removal was only slightly more painful than that, but again, my RE only gives me a valium, not pain meds.  I know some girls here were put to sleep for it.

  • I had an office hysterscopy and an operative hysterscopy. The office one was pretty painless and easy. It took a few minutes for him to look around. I went under for the operative one to remove a polyp. hope this helps!
