Glider/Rocker Recommendations

I was in BBB over the weekend and really liked the Best Chair Trypp and a Little Castle chair.

Does anyone know if one is better than the other?

I don't want to wait 3 months for a chair to ship either and these two were in store.

Anyone have the Trypp in that weird velvety fabric? How does it hold up?

What about the Little Castle in the canvas feeling material?

Any other chair recommendations?

I have heard good things about Pottery Barn chairs but not sure the style, fabric or turn around time.

Would canvas be hard to clean? Velvet?

Thanks

Re: Glider/Rocker Recommendations

  • We have the Grand Glider from PBK and I LOVE IT. The quality is amazing and it's soo comfy. DH and I are both tall so it was the best chair we could find. It's tall enough and deep enough for us. No other chair we looked at could compare. The chair was delivered about 4 weeks after we ordered it and the customer service with PBK was great. The fabric we chose is natural chenille dot and I LOVE it!

  • I would have loved a PBK chair! We got this one cause we're cheap. It has been pretty good though.

  • I purchased the Best Chair Trypp in green and it arrived in 6 weeks.  I looked at both chairs and for the following reasons I purchased the Best Chair. . .

-I live in Indiana and wanted to support an Indiana based company.

-As someone that sews, I realized that there were quality differences between the two chairs. . .

    1. Back construction on the Best Chair was a Box Welt and the Little Castle was a Single Welt.  The box welt provides a little more visual interest and as someone that sews knows - three pieces are put together for a box welt and a single welt requires two pieces of fabric.  Basically, Best Chair took more time and effort to sew a nicer back cushion.

    2. The recliner on the Best Chair has a wrapped foot rest, so no seam from the front, cleaner lines.  The Little Castle is a straight foot rest.  So the difference, Best Chair took a little more time to wrap the fabric around two additional pieces of wood and it provides a cleaner look from the front.

To answer your specific questions . . .

Lead time - Best Chair took 5 weeks to get in and I picked it up at 6 weeks.  In my fabric selection - not microsuede.

Fabric - I believe the one that they stock at BBB is brown microsuede with contrasting piping.  Microsuede is a performance fabric that moisture and stains are supposed to whick off of.  I believe that it is a water based cleaning, not solvent.  You do NOT want a solvent fabric because it requires special chemicals to get stains off.  Microsuede is NMS, but it is durable.

I don't know anything about the Little Castle Canvas - sorry.  I would see if it is coated in a fabric protection because otherwise it might be difficult to get out baby stains.

PBK makes a good product and I believe that their items are slipcovered so you can zip off and threw in the washer.  Although they are more pricey.  You can use the 20% off coupon at BBB as well, so the recliner will end up being in the mid $400's.

    Cleanability?  See above.

Sorry for the essay, but I like to be informed.  And I do not work for Best Chair - I sell salt.

  • I had considered a Best Chair vs. Little Castle one at BBB; I'm not sure if it's the same models you're referring to, but the salesperson said that it's the two most popular models. They were both very comfortable, but it is very subjective. I think the Best chair was a drop wider, whereas the LC one was a little higher. DH and I both found the LC one more comfortable since we prefer to sit up a little higher; the salesman said it's pretty evenly split about who finds which one more comfortable.

We've had the glider in the house for about a month now and I've been living in it. It is so much more comfortable than sitting on our sofa while being super pregnant. I can't wait to rock our LO in it. We got the khaki twill color to hide stains and cat hair (we have three cats). So far the fabric is holding up great but of course it's only been a month. I will say that our cats have been all over it and I've eaten more than a few meals while sitting in that chair, and it still looks brand new so that's a good sign.

I went with Sku 23191, a micro denier performance fabric in spring green.  https://besthfstorytime.microdinc.com/ItemInformation_NewUI.aspx?SKU=5NP27&Catalog=1208

You can go on their website and customize the chair for the color and welting.

Good Luck, I would agree with the pp regarding the dimensions of the chair.  The little castle is higher off of the ground and a little more narrow in the seat.  I am 5'2" and so the Best Chair was a better height for me (I could actually touch the ground - sad, this kid will be taller than me by kindergarten).

  • We chose a Best Chair (the Benji) but not from BBB. I wanted to select my own fabric and chose the linen/cotton blend in a natural linen color with white contrast piping. We tried basically every chair we could find and this one won for us in every way. FWIW, it was half my budget and a PBK chair fit comfortably in my budget but we just didn't care for them. We wanted something without a pillow back and liked the glide motion on the Best Chair a bit more. Also, we prefer to buy things made in North America whenever possible.
