Hi Ladies!
I was doing some research on the facility that we would possibly doing IVF in (if that's what our RE recommends is the best option for us.)
Anyway, I came across the pricing info on their website and it states that the cost for
IVF (excluding drugs)- $6,000, and the cost of ICSI is $1,500 per cycle.
OR
A 3 cycle program where you would pay $12,500 for 3 IVF cycles, and $3,100 for 3 ICSI.
A total savings of $6,900 (if you need all 3 tries) The only stipulations are that you have to complete the 3 cycles within two years.
Give me some opinions, does your centre offer anything like this? Would you do it if they did?
Edited - for wording.
Re: Uhh..IVF Sale!?!
Mine does it with the stipulation you have to pay cash upfront no credit cards or loans. Otherwise you are given the single discounted IVF cycle cost, just not the reduced 3 cycle rate. I think it is an amazing option that very few RE's offer without very difficult to meet exclusions. My RE includes AH or ICSI however, so a little cheaper than that. Check and make sure monitoring is included, a few places that I called that also did it didn't include any monitoring or blood work and told me that it would be an additional 1,500 to 2,000 per cycle, which is average cost.
If it includes all monitoring, bloodwork, and anesthesia I'd say go for it!
Yes, my office has tons of options like this. It seems pretty common. The stipulation for ANY of the programs at my office is that you must not have IVF insurance coverage.
We are doing the following program, (shared risk) which is a tad different from the discount cycle packages:
$20,000 up front covers 6 IVF cycles and any FET's from those IVF cycles, until you achieve a live birth. Miscarriages don't count.
If you get pregnant the first cycle, the office has earned their fee, so you end up overpaying $20,000 for one cycle. As long as it takes you 2 or more tries, you come out pretty even.
If you do not achieve a pregnancy, all $20,000 is returned to you to pursue other options.
You must meet certain criteria, such as FSH levels.

We're currently undergoing IVF abroad, because we live here, but I'm wondering how it works to be matriculated into clinics in the US. We're probably hosed and will have to shell out some crazy money just to cover anything for IVF-ICSI 4+.
That sounds like a pretty good deal, but yes, check and make sure everything is included. Also, find out how they deal with frozen embryos. Do you have to use them first and pay OOP? Or maybe you can save them and do 3 fresh first?
My clinic does not offer any multicycle programs, but I would not do it even if they did. Based on my age and diagnoses (similar to yours!), I have the highest possible odds that IVF will work. If it doesn't work, then I have a very good chance of having frosties that I can transfer.
The chance that it doesn't work in 2 fresh cycles and I would need the 3rd of a multicycle program is very low. With my frugalness, I have to go where the odds are, which is paying one cycle at a time.
There are benefits for doing a multicycle plan though. Peace of mind that you have 3 cycles so there isn't a ton of pressure on the first. The ability to transfer 1 embryo without having cost factoring into your decision. If these things are worth it to you, then the multicycle plan is a good option. Most people, however, lose money by opting to do multicycle. So, you have to make a decision that's right for you.
I still hope the urologist finds something and you don't need IVF!
maggie - I also hope the urologist can figure out something! Also, I read your update that you have started your first IVF cycle Best of luck, I'm always rooting for you!
I wasn't aware that this sort of thing was common practice. Good to know though!
Unfortunately, at my clinic, you cannot have undergone any previous IVF cycles at any point to qualify for shared risk.
