Babies: 0 - 3 Months

**Reese M or anyone who is going off the swaddle cold turkey**

Last night was DD's first night with no swaddle. I actually put her to bed in the swaddle but she kept trying so hard to bust out of it. I decided to just try the sleep sack instead. I figured I wouldn't get too much sleep but at least DH would be home for the weekend and he could cover me while I slept during the day.

Usually her nights go like this:

bed at 10 pm

wake up at 4 am to eat

wake up at 7 am to eat

wake up at 8 or 9 for the day

This is how last night went (we cosleep so I was right beside her all night. Also, I held her hand all night so she would know I was there and also to stop her arm from flailing):

bed at 10 pm

awake at 10:25 pm (crying, so I soothed her and put her plug back in)

awake at 11 pm (crying again, plug back in again)

awake at 3 am (fussy, I decided to feed her since it was almost her normal feeding time anyway - she went right back to sleep afterward)

awake at 5 am (fed her again)

awake for the day at 8 am

It went quite well all things considered. We'll see how tonight goes!

Re: **Reese M or anyone who is going off the swaddle cold turkey**

  • last saturday and sunday we tried going cold turkey and it was a disaster!!  he screamed and screamed and would not calm down.  as soon as we wrapped him up - sound asleep in less than 10 mins.

so last night we decided to try again.  our plan was to use the sleep sack for as long as he would sleep and then switch over to the swaddle whenever needed.  we hoped the sleep sack time would increase with each passing day.

he fell sound asleep at 9pm last night.  woke up at 3am to eat, went back to sleep by 4 (still in sleep sack) and slept until almost 8!!

we are crossing our fingers that it was not just a fluke!

    good luck to you

  • We moved DD from the SwaddleMe to a sleep sack at 4 months.  I was terrified after hearing all the difficult swaddle-breaking stories on this board, but DD couldn't have cared less.  She slept just fine in the sleep sack.
