anyone here give their LO raw goats milk? we are weaning from soy formula (LO is still on Zantac for reflux) and have been buying pasturized from the store which is fine, but I have been reading about raw milk and the benefits and found some at the local farmers market for half the price this weekend. we bought a half gallon and are going to try it. anyone else use this?

Re: raw goat milk
I worked on a farm for a summer where we milked and drank raw goat's milk. It was tasty stuff...but unless they are washing the udders down before every time before putting on milking equipment...I don't think I'd risk it with my kid.
We used to hand milk and even if you washed the bucket out after they stepped in it (which they tried to do a lot), they still had dirty underbellies that we didn't scrub down before the twice a day milkings. I'm sure no matter how hard we tried to be clean...well, it's just not a sterile environment. That summer I had one bout of diarrhea and later a pin-worm. Sure it might have been from something else...but my bet is on the milk.
shudder...I HATE the "goaty" taste of older milk or low-quality goat cheese (they have to be bred regularly or the milk starts to taste like the backside of a ram).
Fresh goat milk and goat cheese tastes so darn delicious that it seems like such a shame when I buy some at the store, or eat some at someone's house, that tastes "goaty". Many people think that's how it's "supposed" to taste...
LO can't do raw cow milk but can do raw goat milk. He loves it!
