Babies: 6 - 9 Months

sleep change at 6 months?

Hello everyone! This is my first post on this board.  DD will be six months on Wednesday! Since she was about 2 months she would sleep really well. Down at 8:30ish, wake up just to eat then fall back asleep at 2am and 7am then up for the day around 9am. For the last 2 weeks she has kept herself (as in she's very wide awake and playful) up til 9:30-10:00 then wakes up every 2 hours. She isn't crying hard, more like just complaining, I'll feed her then she fall back asleep. Also, she normally naps about three times a day for a total of 2-3 hours all together. Lately it's been one half hour nap for the whole day. She's breastfed, and doesn't have any signs of teething other than extra slobber. Her demeanor is still very happy.

Any idea of how to help her sleep more?Is six months an age where babes sleep less during the day?

I've tried feeding her rice cereal before bed, cluster feeding before bed, change the light in her room, change sleepwear  in case she's too hot or cold.  far nothing has helped.

Thank you for any advice you have!

  • Completely agree with previous poster.  Also, at this age they start to need a bit of an increase in their awake time unless you already have your LO up too long in the first place.

    Earlier bedtime for sure.

  • thank you. i thought she might be too distracted to nap because i still catch some eye rubs. does an earlier bedtime help sleep through out the night?

It didn't work for us.  She slept from 7 pm to 6 am from 3.5-5.5 months.  Then she would get up 2-4 times a night.  I actually started putting her to bed later at 6 months to see how that goes.  Usually around 8 pm.  Ever since then she only wakes up once a night.
