how many times are you nursing or giving bottles?

We are still nursing 5-6 times a day. Is this too much? He get breakfast, lunch, and dinner of solids and snacks in between. I am going to be weaning when he turns one and it worries me that he is still too dependent on nursing for this to happen.

Re: how many times are you nursing or giving bottles?

  • during the week, I nurse her in the morning and in the evening.  Lately, she's been drinking 2 - 4oz bottles at daycare (which is great for my pumping!)  about once a week, she'll drink 3 bottles.

on the weekends, I feed on demand, as we go "bottle free" to help my supply.

She sttn.  She goes down between 6- 6:30, and wakes up between 5:30-6am.

  • DS gets 4 bottles per day, as he has since about 5 mos. old.  He also eats three meals of solids/ purees, and snacks in between.  I can barely get him to use the sippy cup for formula... the thought of weaning is making me break out in hives!

I could have writen this post word for word. I don't even want to think about weaning...we bedshare and on "bad" nights he nurses every two hours! I'm in trouble! Tongue Tied

  • He normally only nurses once at night now except when he is sick or having a bad teething day. One thing I think I should probably work on getting rid of is that he nurses before sleeping, for both of his naps and before he goes to bed at night. I don't nurse him to sleep but it is part of his routine before I lay him in his crib. Its kind of weird, I worked so hard to make bf work for his first year and now I am stressing about how to end it.

  • Here's our schedule. I think this should translate pretty well into weaning.

    5:30 am - nurse

    6:30 am- solids for breakfast

noon - 8 oz bottle (half pumped breast milk, half formula) followed by solids for lunch

5pm- nurse followed by small solids snack

    6pm - solids for dinner

    7pm - nurse

  • We're at 3 bottles a day. Wake up, afternoon, and before bed.  I'm looking at dropping the afternoon one and offering it in a sippy with lunch instead.

  • DD is still getting 4 to 5 a day depending on when she goes to daycare.  She has always been on the small side so the pedi said to just keep feeding her what she wants and we would re-evaluate it at the year appt.

  • (4) 6oz bottles throughout the day, and 3 meals
  • DS nurses 5x a day and eats two meals (he refuses breakfast, which makes me nervous for weaning). I haven't decided yet when exactly I plan to start weaning, but I won't even start at all until after his birthday. My current "plan" is to go slowly, cutting out one nursing session at a time while introducing breakfast, snacks, and WCM. We'll see how it goes, but I'm trying not to think about it too much. I know I'll miss it whenever I decide to wean him :(
