Down syndrome

A friend of mine had her little one yesterday, He was born with Downs. She is only 28 and He is only 32 so it really opened my eyes that yes it can happen to anyone at any age. I am just asking if people please send thoughts and well wishes to her and her family. It's going to be a long road a head but a happy one. Thanks!

Hi - a friend recently told me about this blog by a woman who gave birth to a child with downs. She might find it to be a great support. Have her read the birth story that I'm linking below. I will pray for your friend. I'm sure they will be great parents and downs kids are some of the sweetest kids ever; make sure to remind them that the child will most likely be able to meet all the milestones that everyone else does, just at their own pace(:

My fiance and I are going through the same scare right now. We're high risk for it and waiting for more blood tests to come back. I'm 18, he's 20. It's scary stuff!

Hi there.  How scary.  I was just curious why someone so young is high risk for having a down syndrome baby.  Anyhow, I hope everything turns out okay for you. xoxo

Yeah they knew before. She is an amazing person and will be a great mum. Anyone can have a down syndrome baby it's just higher risk at a higher age. This baby having downs can't have a better mum. I don't her husband so I don't know how good he will be with it but he seems to be ok with it so far. I am just glad I am getting the NT scan down as well. It wouldn't change what my husband and I will do but It's good to be prepared.

Really sorry to hear about your friend. Im very happy that baby has an amazing mother. My husband and I are going through more testing right now because ultrasound found some problem areas and Im beyond scared. I dont know that Ill be patient enough to make it thought it, however my husband and I will love our child regardless it just makes it so hard during the waiting game. So im sure that them knowing ahead was hard, but gave them some time to prepare. God bless them and that child, those kids are truley special

Ditto!   My OB just told us about this.  My DH and I decided it would be best even if it cost us out of pocket.  I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I'm sending prayers up for all of them.

my brother has downs (my mom was only 19 when she had him), and he is the joy of our family. He's healthy and brings a lot of light and laughter to our family. He's 27 now and wants to get married and have a life of his own. The possibilities for these guys is broadening faster than society can keep up with. I know it's a shock to get the news but I think with the right support system in the family and community, it is a blessing too.

I know of a 16 year old who gave birth to a baby with Downs, as her parents and mine have been friends for decades. The baby was adopted by a family member of hers (not because of Downs, but because of her age), and is living in the best home the situation had to offer. It truly was a blessing!
