Baby Names

Catholic Boy's Name

H and I have decided on Vincent for the first name for our son. We like the meaning of it "The Conquering One", and we are also naming him after St. Vincent de Paul. We are kind of stuck on a middle name. We like Andrew and Michael, leaning more towards Michael, but not really because it's SOOOOOOO popular and common.

So what do you think? Vincent Michael or Vincent Andrew? Other suggestions are also appreciated. We aren't against using non-Catholic names either, or different variations of Catholic names. Our DD is Josie Louanne (St. Josephine, St. Louis, and St. Ann)

TIA! :)

Re: Catholic Boy's Name

  • They're all nice combinations.  Vincent is very underused and not odd at all.

My very Catholic husband wanted to use a Saint's name for our child.  That's another list you can Google to get ideas.  Yeah, there are some oddball ones out there, but plenty of normal names, too.

  • I like the name Vincent but I had trouble thinking of a good middle name for it. Everything I thought of sounded better with Vincent as the middle name.

I like Patrick, John, James, Thomas.

  • I love Vincent.  Michael is a great name because it is a classic.  So I would not worry about it's popularity, especially as a middle name.  That said, I prefer Vincent Andrew.  I have always loved the name Andrew.

  • I went to St. Anthony school, so for Catholic names, Anthony jumps out at me. Vincent Anthony is ok, but I think I like Vincent Andrew better.

Also Vincent Francis, Vincent Alexander, Vincent Adam, Vincent Stephen.

  • Either of your choices are great. My nephew is Vincent Joseph and I think that's a very strong name, as well. I love Vincent! His nn is Vinci :)

  • We are Catholic too, and only wanted Catholic Saint names for DD. To me, it just meant more. Anyway.....

I immediately thought of Emilio/Emilian. I LOVE Vincent Emilio, very classy, strong, and super Catholic.

Since you like to play on tradition (as do I), how about using part or all of Pope John Paul II's real name- Karol Jozef ?

And, as always, Peter is a classic. Christ said, "On this rock I shall build my church" when speaking with Peter, who of course, was the first Pope. It would be pretty awesome to say that your namesake is "the rock."

Other suggestions- Matteo, Luke, Benedict, Bennett (form of Benedict)

  • We too are looking for Catholic names and Vincent is on my list! Love it! Honestly, for a middle name, I don't think it matters how common it is. He will go by Vincent. I would pick the Saint who has the most meaning to you for that mn! Btw, I have a nephew named Benedict Michael, he gets complimented on his name a lot.
  • I like both Vincent Michael and Vincent Andrew. Great, solid names (and they have to be mns of my brother and DH so I like them both).

Other thoughts (based on the school names I can think of from growing up): Joseph, Robert, Frances, John, Peter

  • Either Vincent Michale or Vincent Andrew sound great to me.  Other ideas that came to mind are Vincent Patrick, Vincent David, Vincent Matthew, Vincent Joseph.
