Mixing formula and BM

DS is eating more lately and I can't keep up with pumping to fill his demand, I just don't have the opportunity at work to pump more than I am doing now. I was thinking of starting him on a few formula/bm bottles here and there to make my stash last a little longer. Has anyone had experience with this, did you DC like it or was it hard for them to get used it?

Re: Mixing formula and BM

  • DS doesn't mind formula at all...he's had to drink it a few times.  I've mixed BM and formula only a few times, but he had no issues with it!

  • I have to supplement with formula and DD has no problem going back and forth between BM and FF. ?I just never mix the two together because if she doesn't finish a bottle, I've wasted the BM. It means washing more bottles, but it's worth it since I'm not producing as much BM as I'd like. ?
  • I giving DD bm and ff with no problem.  All bottles but the two middle of the night bottles are BM and she has no problems.
  • We have to do this as well-- basically I'm not producing enough milk for DD. She never seemed to notice the difference!!!
  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have school and DS stays with his Grandmas. I have started giving him formula on those days so that I can build up my BM stash.  He doesn't seem to notice but he has had a bowel movement for a couple of days. I don't know if that is because of the formula or if it's just a stage. I read in a magazine that babies start having less bowel movements (like one a week less).  I think I just feel guilty, but he doesn't notice.
