I know it's early in the game but I am petrified of telling my boss and collegues of my pregancy. So sorry if this is a little wordy. I have a collegue who is expecting her 1st on May 22nd. This is my 2nd and I just got a promotion 2 months ago. My boss took a huge chance in giving me this promotion and I don't want to let her down. I am working my booty off every single day trying to prove myself. I have my 1st doctors app and ultra sound on 4/26 at 10am and I don't know whether I should tell her before or when I come back from the app. I know that I definately want to tell her before the family because I have family members (in particular the inlaws) that will put it all on facebook and I will have no chance to tell anyone. I also don't want to take away any excitement from my other collegue who is expecting. It's like wearing a white dress or outfit to a wedding, you just don't do that!!
Re: Telling my boss.....
i agree with this. you aren't doing anything TO your co-worker.... don't worry!!
as far as your boss in concerned, I think that it would be best that you follow your gut instinct. after your first doctor's appointment, you can always just let him/her ( i dont remember ) know that despite your pregnancy, you will be present and working just as hard as you have been thus far. he/she gave your your promotion for a reason right? if he/she didnt see something in you worth taking a chance on, then it wouldn't have happened in the first place!!
happy and healthy 9 months to you, new mommy-to-be!!!
Tell when you need to tell but just think of this: If something were to happen and the pregnancy didn't progress, would you want to have to "untell" your boss?
I just had a scare today when my OB couldn't find the heartbeat and I was sent for an urgent ultrasound. I am thankful everything turned out well and we have a healthy baby but I'm just not that close with my boss that I would want to sit down and have that conversation.
I know what you mean. I say tell her after the appt once you know everything's okay. That's what I'm doing. Baby's are a blessing. Don't feel like you're letting her down. If she cares that much about you she will be excited for you.
I work at a school (not big about 80 kids per grade). Right now we have 6 teachers pregnant. I'm nervous to tell him because he's going to have a lot on his plate with so many people being out.
