Infertility

might be TMI, but ladies who had a loss, question re bleeding for you..

I was 6 weeks pregs last Fri but the pregnancy was not viable and I didnt need to take any meds since I was slightly bleeding, I just stopped taking progesterone on fri, so this am at 2, I had the worst cramps ever, I had to get some Advil and wait for it to kick in bec I was dying-the pain was awful, I felt like I had to throw up, go to the bathroom and I was in so much pain all at the same time, finally the advil kicked in and then I went to the bathroom and clots of stuff came out- kind of chunky(sorry TMI), my beta on Mon was 300, dropped down from 348 last Fri, they monitor until the level is 1 I guess, so my question is I am only slightly bleeding now, so how long does the bleeding last for? was that the main part of it? should it stop soon? or once I get the betas that's when I would be able to tell when the bleeding stops?

  • Im sorry that you are going through this. I miscarried at 5.5 weeks a little over a week ago and I was also very crampy and was passing clots. I just continued to take tylenol, curled up on my couch, and use a heating pad to make the pain less intense. I found that the more often I used the bathroom and passed the clots (sorry if TMI), the less pain I was in.

I spotted for 2 days and then had insanely heavy bleeding nonstop for 3 days, then 2 more days of off and on bleeding and spotting.  The pain was the worst on days 3-5 (when I had the heavy bleeding).

The heavy bleeding ended 10 days ago and my beta just today dropped down to 1. The doctor told me that it is common for your beta to take a few weeks to get back down so give it time. Make sure you get lots of rest, drink lots of water (and gatorade) and continue to eat healthy and take your vitamins to prevent anemia. I had a few days last week where I was not feeling so great but lots of rest helped with that.

     Hang in there.

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this.

With my first I was in a ton of pain like you and things happened very quickly. I spotted lightly for about three days. I got my period 2 weeks later.

With my second, it was chemically induced, lots of pain and significantly longer. I bled for several days afterwards and then spotted for almost 10 days or so.

My betas dropped quickly both times. The second one though I ovulated when my beta was between 150ish and 30, so the myth about not ovulating until your all the way to zero isn't true. Also got my period when my beta was 8.

Good luck. Its so hard. The girls on TTCAL are awesome if you need any more advice.

  • Sorry you've been hurting. Everyone will be different. I bled forever and a day. Three weeks after I started bleeding, I got MTX.  Three weeks later, the bleeding stopped and hCG was 0.  A month later, I found out the m/c was incomplete and then had a d&c. You just never know. The bleeding would come and go for me, too. Only time will tell for you. In the mean time, keeping up with Advil is a good idea. Hugs.

  • Im so sorry for your loss. When I first m/c we didn't realize thats what it was so we upped the progesterone and I was put on bedrest and the bleeding slowed, but the damage was done. We headed in for a d&c shortly after. Second time I was bleeding quite heavily, passed lots of clots, had ridiculous cramps (later to find out it was contractions) and ended up in the ER. I passed the bulk of things in the hospital. Finally a few hours later the cramps had subsided. We found out my beta significantly dropped and the pregnancy was over. After that we also did a d&c because there was still more to expell. But i didn't really bleed in between the hospital and the surgery. I always chose the d&c route because of immediate closure. I could not imagine bleeding any more than I already did and it being more painful than it already was. I am also a teacher so waiting for things to naturally happen and passing them myself would have been awkward and difficult for me if I was at work (as im sure this would be for anyone!)  I would like to say that maybe this was the main part of it but that there is still more to come. I would also like to caution you about your first AF post m/c. That one is a doozy! Worst pain (besdies m/c and lap) that ive ever been in.

Sending you hugs and I am so so so sorry this has happened to you. I wish you the best moving forward. Stay strong!

And everyone is different.  With my first miscarriage I bled for about 2 weeks, but my beta never did get down to zero (I had to take methotrexate for it)
