Warning: Peapod crib (warning, sad!)

I don't remember seeing a lot about these when we were all gear hunting, but just saw this on FB and thought it was worth reposting. Its a blog post from a mom whose 5 month old suffocated in apwapod crib. My heart just shatters for this family!

That is so, so sad   What a beautiful little boy.  I can't imagine what his family is going through.

I did look into the Peapod crib a while back, but I never even thought of that.

How tragic.  This poor family!  Thanks for passing this along. It's always good for moms to share info. so that we can keep other moms from such tragedies. I am deeply saddened for this moms loss.  How awful this product wasn't off the market.

I looked at this crib briefly when we were looking for travel options and it just didn't seem safe to me for babies :-/. My heart breaks for the family.

Okay, I heart you, CarlaAndJames, but you absolutely can NOT title a post like that going forward, mkay? Geez louise. Now I'm all weepy and shiit. If you had just titled it PSA: Peapod crib (warning sad) I would have a) instantly known that I should never buy that thing and b) not read it.

What a horrible horrible tragedy. I looked at that travel crib but just really didn't feel comfortable with the design and ended up buying the GoCrib instead even though it was a lot more money. So glad now that I made that choice... I seriously considered the Peapod too. I feel so bad for this poor woman and her family - looks like she was a June mommy too :-(

Omgoodness, you are so right. That never even occurred to me...changing it now before the day bumpers wake up. I'm so sorry!!

I think it's the no airflow on the panels thing. although an inflatable mattress sounds like a bad idea too!

I have this and the mattress is very thin, just provides a little cushion.There's nothing about it, imo, that could cause an issue. I really like our Peapod. It was great for vacation...for LO sleeping in and on the beach.

I don't think this product needs to be banned. If they're gonna ban this, they should ban bumpers too. It's so sad this happened, either way. I'm so sorry for that family.
